Our brush with homelessness

After writing about having the best start to our vacation, I now get to write about our totally shitty experience upon landing in Amsterdam.

So, as a background.....I booked our accommodation in Amsterdam almost three months ago. Why so early you ask? Because I am anal with a capital Amy. Also, because the day we landed was King's Day, a national holiday and peak tourist time. I had booked an apartment through Airbnb and had been in contact with the owner for the past three months. Upon arrival we started to send the owner texts, emails and then made numerous phone calls. After sitting on the street for an hour and a half outside the apartment, and after having a really tiny cry, we decided time was of the essence (Lawyerisms), and that we had to find somewhere else to stay. We lucked out all things considered (there was only a 4% vacancy rate!) and are now in a lovely hotel right near Vondelpark. Airbnb is refunding our money and giving us a $99 credit and I am sending bad vibes into the universe towards "Mike" the Airbnb owner who loves travel and adventure and apparently screwing over tourists. Thanks Mike!

  1. Glad to hear you made it. The day after you left we had a huge snow storm in Delburne so your timing was perfect lol.

    1. Ha! We saw it was zero today and we're in Corniglia in Italy and it was a warm 23 today. P.S. I see I'm still killin' it in the hockey pool!

  2. You should SEE the CBC today and what happened to an AirBnB couple here in Calgary....they rented their home for a night and just after they left, a party bus showed up and dropped off 100 partiers who, according to police, had a drug fuelled orgy in these people's house...and proceeded to destroy it. The video of the damage and the pictures are pretty bad.... But anywho....glad to hear that even though you had a rocky start, you're well on your way! ps. your dress was pretty...your face was sour....and I loved the picture commentary. My congrats to the gorge newlyweds.

    1. That story is horrible! We'll think twice about ever renting our place out.... On the plus side however, we have a beautiful place in Corniglia - Italy. Hopefully Amy doesn't go HULK style and trash the place hahaha! I just need to remember to keep her fed.
